What are lockable gas springs?

Lockable gas springs, also known as locking gas springs or locking gas struts, are designed to hold the piston rod securely at any point along its stroke without the need for external locks. This is achieved through a specialized lockable spring design that separates the gas and oil chambers, enabling smooth adjustment and reliable load holding. 

Typical applications include adjustable tables, chair backrests, gym equipment, control panels, desks, beds, and medical or patient care equipment where safe, precise positioning is essential.

How do lockable gas springs work?

Locking gas springs work by combining the force of compressed nitrogen with an internal locking mechanism. When the piston rod is moved, a valve-controlled design separates gas and oil chambers.

By activating the release mechanism, the piston can be positioned smoothly along the stroke and locked securely at any point. Depending on the type, the lock may hold rigidly or allow slight cushioned movement under load, ensuring safe adjustment and reliable load support.
