Door springs
The performance, safety, and feel of a door depend heavily on one critical component: the spring set. High-quality torsion and tension springs balance overhead doors, ensuring smooth operation, long service life, and a premium end-user experience.
While tension springs have long been standard in garage doors, advances in insulated, high-performance door systems are making torsion springs a popular choice as well. Offering greater accuracy for heavier doors and complex lifting systems, torsion springs deliver precise control when performance demands are highest.
From industrial door springs to commercial and residential, Lesjöfors combines expert craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing to develop extension and torsion springs engineered for precise motion control across a range of door systems.

What are door springs?
Door springs balance and control the movement of a door. Depending on the design, weight, and performance requirements, they are typically either torsion springs or extension (tension) springs.
Garage door systems commonly use extension springs to support a wide range of door sizes and weights. Torsion springs, mounted above the door opening, deliver more controlled, smooth motion and longer service life.
Together, these spring types enable safe, reliable, and efficient operation across residential, industrial, and commercial door applications.

What are Quattro tension springs?
Quattro tension springs are innovative garage door springs developed by Alcomex, part of the Lesjöfors network. Their compact spring-in-spring design meets strict European safety standards.
They fit into smaller, built-in spaces (as little as 35 × 55 mm), making installation quicker and more efficient. This allows door manufacturers to supply pre-tensioned hardware sets, saving time, space, and cost on-site.
Extensively tested and trusted by leading door manufacturers, Quattro tension springs offer a reliable and efficient solution for modern residential garage doors.

Types of door springs

Extension spring sets developed for garage doors
Our extension (tension) spring sets for garage doors are based on patented solutions and engineered to exceed industry standards. We offer a comprehensive range of extension systems, covering door weights from 20 kg to 150 kg, and accommodating door heights of up to 3 meters, in accordance with EN 12453l.

Torsion springs sets for garage doors
All customized torsion springs for doors undergo shot peening and powder coating is also available - to extend service life and increase load capacity. Available in both standard and customized lengths, these springs are offered in diameters of 51, 67, 95, and 152 mm, with wire diameters of up to 12 mm.

Advanced door spring manufacturing
For decades, we have led innovation in spring manufacturing. By combining advanced coiling technology with expert craftsmanship, we deliver consistently exceptional results. Our CNC-controlled processes ensure tight tolerances, high repeatability, and long-term strength.
Every spring is ISO-certified and engineered to perform under demanding conditions.

How do torsion door springs work?
Torsion springs work by generating rotational force. As the spring is twisted, energy is stored within the coiled wire. When released, this energy produces torque that lifts, lowers, or returns the door to its closed position.
In door hardware, torsion springs are valued for their precision and are commonly used in applications requiring accurate force control, particularly in heavier or high-performance doors.

How do extension door springs work?
When it comes to garage door parts, extension (tension) springs operate by resisting pulling forces. As the door opens, the spring stretches and stores energy.
When the door closes, that energy is released, pulling the door back into position. The coils separate under load and return to a tightly closed state when unloaded, making extension springs a proven and widely used solution, especially in traditional garage door systems.

How does the Quattro tension spring work?
Quattro tension springs are designed specifically for modern residential doors, featuring a compact spring-in-spring construction that requires minimal built-in space.
This evolution of the extension spring delivers reliable performance in increasingly compact and insulated door designs.
