Torsion springs
Torsion springs are helical coils that apply rotational force, or torque, when twisted. They store and release angular energy to hold components in place or return them to position. The spring’s legs transfer torque and connect to your application.
Lesjöfors combines expert craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing to deliver smooth, reliable performance. Each spring is tailored to your needs, including coil direction, leg shape, and mounting style. We use cold-formed wire up to 26 mm and hot-formed material up to 65mm, ensuring durability under repeated twisting loads.

What are torsion springs?
Torsion springs are designed to store energy in their coiled center and release it as rotational force when their legs are twisted and then unwind. They attach at both ends and generate torque to move components back to their original position. Available in a range of sizes and strengths, torsion springs are used in many applications that require controlled, bidirectional rotational force – from simple mechanical devices to complex assemblies.
Different types of torsion springs
Axial torsion springs: Coils align parallel to the axis, providing torque in circular motion. Ideal for compact rotational assemblies.
Double torsion springs: This design uses two coiled springs joined at the center. They’re wound in opposite directions to boost torque and keep forces balanced.
Tangential torsion springs: Apply force tangentially along the coil, ensuring smooth torque delivery.
Radial torsion springs: These springs push outward from the center. They're ideal for applications that need to spread force or resist inward pressure.

Custom torsion springs
Every application presents its own challenges – and our torsion springs are created to meet them. We work closely with you to design springs tailored to your exact performance needs, adjusting dimensions, selecting materials and operating conditions.
With decades of industry experience, we ensure that each spring is not only functional but optimized for its intended use.
Torsion spring leg forms
Leg configurations help transmit torque and secure springs in place:
Tangential legs
These springs extend tangentially from the outer edge of the coil. They deliver a steady, controlled force.
Axial legs
Project along the spring’s central axis, offering loading in tight spaces.
Radial external legs
These springs extend outward in a radial direction. They're a solid choice for strong mounting points in larger assemblies.
Radial over-center legs
These legs move across the center of the spring as it works. This improves force balance and adds stability.

Advanced torsion spring manufacturing
For over 170 years, Lesjöfors has been at the forefront of innovation. We combine cutting-edge coiling technology with expert craftsmanship to deliver exceptional results. Our CNC-controlled process ensures tight tolerances and lasting strength. Every torsion spring is manufactured through ISO-certified processes and built to perform under pressure.

How do torsion springs work?
Torsion springs generate rotational force when their legs are twisted in opposite directions. This action stores energy in the coiled wire. When released, it generates torque to return connected components to their original positions.
Most setups use a right-hand wound spring on one side and a left-hand wound spring on the other. A double torsion spring merges these two into one balanced unit.
Torsion springs are ideal for both clockwise and counterclockwise motion. They provide precise, reliable torque wherever rotation is required.

Torsion spring materials
Our torsion springs feature premium materials engineered for durability and specific environmental conditions. Stainless steel is a popular choice for corrosion resistance and strength. Our material specialists are ready to help you choose the best option for your application. They consider stress tolerance and environmental factors to find the right fit.
